With lockdown still in effect around the world, many people are trapped at home all day, and that means people are turning to gaming to pass the time. This has led to a huge increase in people playing or returning to Fortnite.
In a recent tweet, Fortnite announced that 3.2 billion hours of Fortnite were played during the month of April 2020, a month where the lockdown was in full effect for its entire duration.
For context, that is over 3652 centuries. We are currently in the 21st Century AD. That is a lot of time.
Recently, we have seen Epic really step their game up to try and keep players playing, perhaps on the back of this huge growth in hours spent playing. They have started communicating with the community more, doing more for competitive, giving patch notes to supported creators, more in-game events and removing SBMM from squads.
Time will tell whether Fortnite will continue to grow again or whether players will leave the game once lockdown restrictions are lifted.
