Volibear’s attacks and abilities grant attack speed, and eventually cause his basic attacks to deal bonus magic damage to nearby enemies.
Q – Thundering Smash
Volibear gains speed towards enemies, stunning and damaging the first one he attacks.
W – Frenzied Maul
Volibear damages an enemy, applying on-hit effects and marking them. Casting this spell again on the same target deals bonus damage and heals Volibear.
E – Sky Splitter
Volibear summons a lightning bolt at a location, dealing damage and slowing enemies while granting Volibear a shield if he’s inside the blast radius.
R – Stormbringer
Volibear leaps to a target location, slowing and damaging enemies beneath him while gaining bonus health. Enemy towers near his landing location become temporarily disabled.
How these abilities will scale have not yet been released but with such heavy crowd control in his kit, it is likely he will be seen in the top, jungle or support roles.
New and Updated Skins
Along with the rework, Volibear has also received a new skin. “The Thousand-Pierced Volibear” looks terrifying, as his neck are covered in eyes. He also wields massive purple claws, and his head has been replaced with a horned skull.
“Northern Storm Volibear’s” splash art has also been updated, as we see the bear demigod in white camouflage and armour wearing a fanged mask.
Volibear’s ingame models for other skins have also seen some love and attention, including El Rayo and Runeguard Volibear.
Riot are celebrating the Volibear rework reveal with a mini-ARAM event. Volibear will appear in the middle of Howling Abyss and let out a thunderous roar, followed by all players being briefly knocked up. Players who take part in this event will be rewarded this free emote.
