Warzone: How to Win More Gunfights

Updated:

Warzone can be a hard game for even the most experienced Call of Duty players. Its high punishments for death and player base of knowledgeable players can sometimes make gunfights hard to win. Luckily, you can start winning more fights with just a few simple changes to the way you play. Here are the best tips to start winning gunfights in Warzone.

Use Your Guns Where They’re Most Effective

Each weapon class in Warzone has its own set of strengths and weaknesses. For example, SMGs are the strongest class in tight corridor gunfights or other short-range engagements, but they struggle to kill at long range.

The quickest change you can make to your gameplay to win more gunfights is to use the right guns for the fight you are in.

For example, avoid open areas when using an SMG, and avoid fighting in corridors if you’re using an LMG.

If you aren’t sure what environment your gun is best suited to, you can remember a simple rule: the slower the gun is to handle and shoot, the further away you want to be from the enemy.

Using a gun in a situation that it isn’t suited for puts you at a huge disadvantage, so try to avoid it whenever possible.

Learn Effective Aiming Habits

The single most important skill to have in any shooter is effective aiming. There are small habits that you can be doing at all times to improve your aim, and many are easy to get into.

The simplest is to keep your crosshairs in the center of the environment ahead of you.

You should almost always be trying to keep your crosshair directly in front of where you’re going. This includes pointing your view up when climbing upstairs, and down when climbing down.

Another way to hit more shots is to pre-aim around corners or when you’re anticipating an enemy. Pre-aiming simply means aiming down your sights before you spot an enemy, so that you’re ready for when one does appear.

You should do this around any corner where you think there may be a threat.

Having your gun up and ready helps you to win in any FPS, not only Warzone, because it means you will start the gunfight and spend more time dealing damage than your enemy.

You should combine centering and pre-aiming when you’re sure there’s an enemy around the corner by keeping your crosshair tight to the wall that you’re walking around. This will ensure you can fire on your enemy at the soonest point possible.

Become Hard to Hit

The next most important skill after hitting your shots is dodging the enemy’s. There are a few easy ways that you can avoid damage in Warzone, with the easiest being strafing.

Strafing is simply moving left and right while shooting to throw the enemy’s aim off and avoid damage as a result. Always attempt to strafe in short and mid-range flights.

Another important skill for dodging bullets is jump shotting. This is best done when turning a corner, as it takes the enemy by surprise and increases the chances of them missing their shots.

If you’re playing with a controller, you’ll want to change your button layout to make sure you can jump shot and aim at the same time. The best button layout preset for this is Bumper Jumper, as it moves your jump button to your left bumper (LB or L1).

It can be a bit of a learning process to start hitting your left bumper to jump, but practice and you’ll be jump-shotting in no time.

The final way that you can avoid taking damage is by using cover to your advantage. You should always aim to be near cover, so you can hide behind it when you’re in an unfavorable gunfight.

After you learn these mechanics you can move on to something more advanced like learning how to slide cancel which will give you even more edge in winning Warzone’s gunfights.

Listen to the Battlefield

Always play with headphones when playing Warzone. Headphones are vital for receiving information about nearby enemies, as by wearing them you can hear exactly which direction they’re coming from.

When playing with headphones also make sure that the volume is high enough to hear the quieter sounds. It will give you some time to pre-aim before an enemy appears around the corner, and also protects you from being snuck up on.
