Paris Games Week 2019 offered game fans plenty of exclusive sneak peeks into some of the 2020’s most anticipated games. A gameplay preview of Cyberpunk 2077 was revealed, showing off many game features. In addition, a special preview of Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs: Legion was shown to attendees who braved the long queue. Couldn’t make the preview? Not to worry! Gamezo was there to report on all the exclusive reveals and new features.

A Legion of Playable Characters

One of the most exciting features of this game revealed at E3 was the ability to play as any NPC you come across. This was showcased throughout the 30-minute gameplay preview at Paris Games Week. Beyond that, each character isn’t just a differently-skinned NPC. Each has its own backstory, skills, and relations.

Before you can play as an NPC, you first have to gain their trust and recruit them to your cause. This is usually accomplished by doing some sort of side mission for them. Once you successfully recruit them, they become playable characters. Each has their own class and skill tree that you can level up.

Beware! Some characters have inherent traits that you need to be aware of. For instance, some elderly characters have the unfortunate ability to spontaneously die. Yes, really.

It’s good to have a wide variety of recruits that have different skills. You shouldn’t focus too much on any one character—once one of your recruits dies, they’re gone for good and no longer playable.

Additional Game Features

  • As you walk around, you can “scan” those around you and gauge who you want to talk to or recruit. Some NPCs are already biased against or unsympathetic to your cause, so they may not be worth your time.
  • Each time you enter an enemy-occupied zone, your character automatically dons a mask to protect their identity. The masks look awesome and really gives you a sense of being a revolutionary. You can pick between different masks to wear including the monocle pig from the game’s cover art.
  • In the game’s open world, you are free to hop in any car and drive around (there are some really cool looking cars in the game). But be aware that if you run over a pedestrian or otherwise hurt an NPC, you will turn 5 of their associates, family members, or friends against your cause. That being said, have fun in London, but don’t wreak too much havoc or you will have trouble recruiting allies.
  • You can fast travel around the city to various tube stops. You can also check the map of London to see which of your recruits are nearest to where you want to go and select their character to start playing wherever they are.
  • Tech plays an important role in the game. You can hack security cameras to gain intel, call drones to drop explosives, and much more.

What’s Next?

Whether you want to play as an unassuming grandma, a brash ex-cop, an average bartender, a top-level hacker, or all of the above, Watch Dogs: Legion has it all. This game will be groundbreaking in terms of playability and will offer a unique game experience.

Watch Dogs: Legion will be released on March 6, 2020 on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Google Stadia.

Check out other games to look forward to in 2020, and stay tuned for more gaming news.
