Day 7 of Worlds is now halfway through, as GenG beat TSM in a game that was very back and forth… for all the wrong reasons.
TSM had nothing left to lose, and no stakes other than regaining their honor, while GenG counted on this game to put themselves ahead in the race for playoffs.
North America opened the game in a dominating fashion off the back of good plays up the mid and top lane. GEN answered back through the bot lane, giving their marksman a strong lead, and building one asset to play through.
However, NA’s lead was stronger, and the score quickly turned to 9-3 with a strong 5k gold lead 17 minutes into the game, off the back of a 5/0 Bjergsen on Lucian. And while GenG still showed signs of Life and managed to edge out TSM in one teamfight, the American team picked off Clid and made Racal’s Ornn burn his ultimate, and were able to turn on the Baron as a result.
That was where it all crashed down.
While quickly burning down the Baron, TSM attempted to repel their Korean opponents by teleporting their top laner back into the action. But in doing so, they committed more of their team than necessary, leaving Spica alone on the purple worm, which cost him too much health, and the team too much damage. As TSM turned back to the Nashor, Spica, still tanking it, was forced to expend his Smite early for health. GenG rushed into them, and all of TSM ran away, leaving their jungler alone to secure the buff.
Or rather, to put it down to 70 health before their opponents stole it away.
All of a sudden, the gold difference was back to even, with the Koreans having a purple buff on top of it.
A team-wide Lilia sleep from Spica allowed TSM to take one single kill and convert it into an inhibitor turret, before deciding to trade a krug camp to an inhibitor of their own. This was followed by a final teamfight swept by GenG, resulting in a victory that was equal parts not-so-clean from the Koreans, and highly disappointing from the Americans.
With this win, GenG are guaranteed at least a tiebreaker for playoffs, while TSM will get one final chance at not going back home win-less.
