The Zombies mode is coming back with the Call of Duty: Vanguard. And the developers behind it are Treyarch. The guys that started it all back in Call of Duty: World at War in 2008. The Vanguard Zombies seems to have experienced quite a few developments in story and gameplay-wise so let’s go through everything we know about Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies.

Vanguard Zombies Stroyline
The Vanguard Zombies continue the Dark Ather storyline. Even though it is a cross-over and it is a part of the bigger universe, this story is gonna be light on the new players and appeal to the veterans of the game mode. So everyone can have a good time.
There is a Q&A with the Treyarch team if you want some detailed story breakdown, but we will speedrun it in the simplest way we can so that you can understand it whether you are a new or returning fan.
The title translates to “The Beginning” so you can understand why this story is so new player friendly.
There was a project led by a high-ranking Nazi officer named Oberführer Von List (we will call him Von) who as a result of his project created a breach to another dimension. The dimension of Dark Aether. It activates 5 artifacts he and his soldiers have gathered all over the world. Those artifacts are entities from the dimension of Dark Aether that can bond with humans. When bonded human receives entities guidance and power but is not actually possessed by it.
Our friend Von bonds with the entity that gives him the power of rising up the dead. So he goes to Stalingrad that as a result of a horrific war had many dead bodies and started working his new magic. To answer the call, a small group of Special Forces is deployed and gets stuck in the barrier that surrounds Stalingrad.
With no backup, you and your team will have to fight the zombies back. You will have a professor demonologist that was forced to work with Von guide you through this as well as the remaining 4 entities from the Dark Aether dimension talking in your ear and granting you their power. But even though the remaining entities are willing to help fight against Von and his necromancer friend, they may have ulterior motives driving them in this war….
Your base of operations is located in Stalingrad but the missions will take you all around the world. Here at your base, you can access classic upgrades such as Perks, weapon upgrades, and Pack-a-Punch. But most importantly, here you can access the portals that will take you straight to the field of action using some dark magic.
At launch there will be three game modes/objectives available in Vanguard Zombies:
Blitz (your objective is basically survive)
Transmit (escort the payload, in this case a flying zombie head)
Harvest (collect runes that drop from zombies and deposit them, if you play Destiny, you know what that means)
You can pick the one you feel you will complete the fastest or focus on opening up the portion of the map that will have the Perks you want.
Altar of Covenants
This is a new feature added to the Zombies. After successfully completing an objective each player will get a Sacrificial Heart that they will offer to the Altar of Covenants. The altar will have randomized perks every time you return from an objective and can have a great impact on the type of build you are trying to make for your character.
There will be many upgrades available for you including the Ammo Gremlin that will reload non-equipped weapons over time, Brain Rot that turns zombies into allies, or Unholy Ground that will assist in holding down chokepoints and objectives. There will be plenty of Covenants to choose from, empowering players to approach each game differently.
Unique Experience Every TIme
From the words of the developers, every match is going to be a different experience. The objectives, their locations, and the Covenants provided. You will have to adapt and overcome the obstacles the game will place in front of you.
And as this is a cooperative mode, you and your friends with different artifacts can split your roles depending on what you have and your playstyle.
Connected Across All Modes and Platforms
Just like in everything else in Call of Duty: Vanguard, in Zombies, you can team up with your friends from any available platform. That includes platforms of different generations as well!
The Battle Pass system is also shared across the Vanguard, Zombies, and Warzone. So no matter which one you are playing you can progress the Battle Pass and use the loot you have unlocked so far.
Zombies will be a part of the Call of Duty: Vanguard launch experience on November 5. And Treyarch promises new gameplay, stories, twists, characters as post-launch content.
